“No. I just dress like this now.”

I wasn’t lying when I said The Color Purple changed my life.

While dressing the guys I couldn’t get over how nice they all looked in their costumes.

I said to my friend, Annie, “I wish I could look like them.”

Then I started to think, “What’s stopping me?”

So yesterday I went thrifting and got a bunch on new clothes!!

All day today people kept asking me, “You look nice, do you have a presentation today or something?”

To which I would respond, “No. I just dress like this now.”

Then they would ask, “Why?”

And I would yell, “WHY NOT??” and punch them in the balls/ovaries.

I’m just trying out this thing where I dress for success.

Not only do I look nice, but it also makes me different from everyone else. It is another way that I can express myself. YA KNOW?

I wouldn’t say that I am now a fashion guru, but I was think about making some “Mens Style Tips?”

If you look on YouTube there are tons of girls with fashion channels, but only a handful of guys. (And a lot of the guys suck at making videos. Just sayin’.)

Do you think that is a good idea? Let me know.

Would it be better to make a new channel for Fashion/Tutorials or could it work on my channel now? I love feedback, almost as much as I love flattery. =)

youtube.com/codystyles I like it.

THE COLOR PURPLE

THE COLOR PURPLE

You may have hear of it. It was originally a novel that was later adapted into a film and a musical.

Thanks to my new job as a stagehand at a theatre, I was able to work wardrobe for this musical when it came to town this past weekend. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I can’t explain why I loved it so much, it was just FUN.

I had an amazing time being backstage and interacting with the actors and crew. At the end of the first show I was already thinking about changing my major. I want to travel and be in charge of wardrobe for a play. You spend all your time with the crew, and you all become a family. I want to experience that someday.

Let me describe what my weekend was like.

Our call time on Friday was 10 a.m. All of the trucks and buses were late, and didn’t arrive until noon-ish. So for two hours we go to sit around and chat, while we got paid.

When the trucks finally arrived we were supposed to help them unload, but someone told the wardrobe people to go wait in the Wardrobe Room. All of the things for wardrobe were in the last truck, so we had even more paid chill time!

When the head dresser, Tarah, showed up she showed us the “gondolas,” which are basically closets on wheels. The ride must’ve been bumpy, because a lot of the clothes had fallen off of their racks. This meant that we had to iron/steam all of the clothes… I hated it.

We spent hours ironing. I was so bored. I imagined all the other crew members having fun setting up the stage, and I was stuck in a dressing room with a bunch of dresses. (Beautiful dresses BTW) There was a lunch break, and when we returned we only had a little bit of time to finish.

After everything was ironed, Tarah assigned everyone their actors/actresses. I was in charge of dressing three men; JoNathan, James, and Robert; they were in the ensamble. (That just means that they weren’t “main” characters.)

Tarah gave each of us a list that said which clothes were needed for each scene, and then sent us off to go get familiar with our gondola and actors/actresses.

Basically all you have to do is lay out the clothes on a chair so that the actors can put them on really fast.

At first it is kind of awkward because all of the actors and actresses are taking off their clothes in front of you. The awkwardness didn’t last long for me, I just accepted the fact that I was going to be seeing a lot of these people. A LOT.

I looked down the row and saw BEWBS.

I would just like to say that if you ever want to get in shape, become a dancer. All of these people had perfect bodies… They made me hate mine.

Anyway, dressing is simple, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t freaking out! It was my first show and I didn’t want to mess anything up. I had a mini nervous breakdown before the first show.

Luckily, my guys were amazing. They were so nice and helpful. If I made a mistake, they kindly corrected me and didn’t get mad if I put out the wrong hat or pair of shoes. There was actually a scene where I had the wrong shoes out, but JoNathan didn’t have time to put on the right pair. I felt so bad, but he said, “Don’t worry about it. I made it out there in time, that’s all that matters.”

They were just as funny as they were nice. I was cracking up the whole time, they were hilarious! They were always cracking jokes and making fun of each other. I just wanted to travel with them and be their best friend!

When you are working backstage you have to wear all black because you don’t want to be seen by the audience. I wore my black skinny jeans because they are the only black pants that I own that aren’t super ugly.

Seeing as how it is a musical, and I don’t mean to stereotype, some of the guys were checking out my junk. If ya know what I’m sayin’. GIGGITY

Personally I didn’t care, I love flattery. I live off it. Keep that in mind if you ever meet me in person. Just say I look cute and I’ll like you.

Anyway, JoNathan said that I was probably the cutest guy that they had seen in town.

I mean, just look at me.

(I fixed Legolas.)

Then they also said that my jeans were “snatch.” I’m not 100% what that means. I think it is a good thing. Here is the context in which they used it:

James: “I’ve got some skinny jeans, but they’re not as snatch as your’s.”

JoNathan: “It’s not the jeans that are snatch. You’re stach and you make your jeans snatch.”

That may not be EXACT quotes, but it’s really close. Do any of you know what snatch means? (Besides vagina and steal. I already looked those up.)

On Saturday we had two shows. The play is three hours long, but when you are working backstage time just flies by. I couldn’t believe it was over. I was so sad when it ended because I probably wouldn’t ever see these guys again. I felt like we had bonded, ya know? I mean I saw them taking their clothes on and off, that’s bonding right??

The second show ended at 11 p.m. and then we had to tear everything down. It took about three hours! I was so exhausted, but I would have been ready to do it all again the next day.

Tarah told me that I did a great job, and that she wished she would have given me a more difficult character to dress. You don’t know how happy I was when she said that. It would have been fun, but I enjoyed my guys.

Although, having a main character would have meant more quick changes. Quick changes are SO FUUNN. I had two quick changes. The first one was with Robert. Tarah, another dresser, and I all had to change his entire outfit in 20 seconds. Tarah took his shoes off, Robert threw off his pants, the other girl put on his new ones, I put on his vest and jacket, wiped of his face, and gave him his hat. IT WAS SO INTENSE. We did a perfect job every time. (I don’t mean to braaag or anything.)

My second quick change was with a character named Shug. She would come off stage and one girl would help her into her jacket, and I would put on her necklace and bracelet. The necklace was magnetic so that it could be taken on and off quickly, but it would always get stuck on her wig!!

Wardrobe is so fun, and I definitely look up to Tarah. I only knew her for a short time, but she was just a cool person to be around. Before Tarah left she told me to keep dressing because I was good at it. And that’s what I plan on doing. I’m going to try and work wardrobe for all the shows that come, and then put in my resume to different companies that put on plays. Maybe I’ll get luck and become get to travel.

The Color Purple. I still have no idea what happens in the musical. I was backstage for three shows, but never got to see it.

Last weekend’s comic shows my interpretation of The Color Purple. It is worth checking out. HAHA

I might start posting summaries of musicals based on what I hear from backstage. No promises, but it would be hilarious.
